Chris has wide international experience in the resources business, and a track record in building and managing new organisations. He started, and for 9 years to December 2006, led BHP Billiton’s Stainless Steel Materials CSG, building it into the world’s third largest nickel producer and a major marketer of ferrochrome. SSM, with annual sales of over US$5bn, has mining operations, a smelter and two refineries in Australia, a major integrated ferronickel operation in South America and marketing and development activities worldwide. From his operating experience in South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia Chris has excellent people and inter-cultural skills. From mineral exploration and business development roles with Rio Tinto and Shell, he moved on to operations and general management with Billiton and BHP Billiton. His career includes human resource management as well as technical, operations and general management roles. He has managed a listed company and Joint Ventures, as well as divisional businesses, and has considerable experience in mergers and acquisitions, post-acquisition management, and business turnarounds. He exhibits a high level of personal commitment and enthusiasm, and maintains high ethical standards.
