Mike Clayton is a senior CMA Associate and is a fully qualified Mine Surveyor who specialises in advanced 3 dimensional planning systems. He is responsible for developing all spatial visualisation systems using the Eagle programming software and AutoCAD. He also heads a geo-data acquisition team and is highly experienced in all types of surveying including laser scanning and photogrammetry. During his 30 years in the UK coal industry, he has worked in a number of roles ranging from an operational surveyor to principal developer of planning and simulation software. More recently, through his own software development practice – Eagle Software Solutions Ltd – he has provided bespoke modelling systems not only for the coal mining and energy industry but also other sectors which are sensitive to supply and demand issues. These include: INTERKONSULT LTD: Preparation of interactive simulation systems for coal mining companies in Sardinia, Kazakhstan and Spain. Also the preparation of detailed maps and plans for tourist facilities in tunnels under Dover Castle. Development of a geo-modelling system to predict sources of Slate production for an export company in Wales. Entech – RetailFocus – ActivePlan: Software development - Interface between Strucad and AutoCAD to produce AutoCAD blocks for use by a 3rd party system to enable pre-building clash detection of ductwork, pipe-work and cladding. Involved the remote processing of 600 AutoCAD drawings for 80 superstores in America for use in Activeplan’s Facilities Management system. Nottingham University – Mining Department: To write a User interface to various fortran programs, written by the University, to predict underground temperatures for coal mines. This work was an EEC funded project. Ukcoal Plc. were the third partner in the project. The project was a logical extension to work that had already been done at Ukcoal for ventilation prediction for collieries
