Brief CV

Mr. McKechnie has 40 years of experience in the international mining industry, most of which has been in developing countries. He graduated as a geologist from London University in 1965 and gained an M.Sc. in mineral exploration from the Royal School of Mines in 1971. His early career included periods with blue chip North American and British based mining houses in Canada and Africa. In 1976 he joined Billiton, the Royal Dutch/Shell Group's international mining and metals company, where after a period in Latin America, he rose to become President and Managing Director of Shell's Indonesian mining operations. In 1993 he retired from Shell and after training with PA Consultants in London, established a consultancy specialising in the management problems faced by the international mining industry in developing countries. From 1995 to 1999 he held management and board positions in several Australian and Canadian junior companies exploring and mining in Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Africa. Since 2001 Mr McKechnie has been responsible for the establishment and development in Brazil of a New Zealand based construction technology company. During his career Mr. McKechnie has acquired a unique portfolio of specialist skills. These include mineral acquisitions at both property and corporate levels, joint venture and acquisitions management, development of corporate exploration and mining strategies, project development and construction, operations management, organisational management and staffing of operations in remote locations, and negotiation and drafting of both joint venture and basic minerals acquisition agreements. He is an accomplished linguist and has a profound understanding and a personal interest in the problems of doing business in developing countries and managing across cultures.
