Description

CMA staff directed a World Bank-sponsored assignment to restructure, evaluate, value and privatise Centromin - the principal Peruvian state mining company. The asset base included 12 mines, three smelter and refinery operations, seaport and storage areas, 250km high altitude goods and passenger railway system, 200MW electricity generation and transmission network and supporting social and welfare infrastructure. The work was coordinated with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) as financial advisors.

The study included a substantial performance improvement component and an assessment of legal and mining law aspects, as well as an assessment of the total environmental liabilities of operations and infrastructure in anticipation of sell-off to the private sector.
