Brief CV

Roger started his career with the Foseco Group where he specialised in the iron foundry sector. Later he joined the strategy firm Beddows & Company where he started to focus on the steel sector. Beddows’ acquisition by Hatch in 1998 enabled him to broaden and deepen his experience across clients and geographies. In 2006 he joined Atkins to strengthen the heavy industry team’s focus on steel and mining. Within the ferrous sector, has specialised in strategic, technical, commercial and due diligence studies. Upstream, his expertise has included due diligence assignments for two recent private equity deals in the ferrous scrap sector. He has also been involved in a number of iron ore studies. He is also highly experienced in the world of iron units, from extraction of ore through to processing, and the full range of iron unit technologies and processes – DRI/HBI, pig iron, scrap. Downstream, he has led many diverse steel assignments, from studies of whole integrated works and their strategies, through to focused market studies on flat products and a number involving coated steels. He has worked extensively in developed and growth economies, visited many steel plants worldwide, and assessed many investment opportunities including mergers and alliances. As a Management Consultant, he has enabled a large number of commercial organisations to change, perform and grow, in over 30 countries, in line, staff and consulting roles. He is skilled at facing, understanding and influencing the resolution of complex issues relating to uncertain futures. He is an experienced leader of international project teams to enable confident decision-making, transform organisations and deliver results resulting in significant shareholder value enhancement. He has authored many industry papers and spoken at a wide range of international events. He co-authored a multi-client study “A Strategic Examination of Future Steel Production, Raw Materials Supply and Seaborne Freight” which included the examination of steelmaking process route growth by type and country, and assessed global steelmaking and raw materials demand to 2015.
