Stephen Barnett stepped down from the post of President/CEO of the Nickel Institute in October 2010 after 5 years in that position. Prior experience has included 23 years with BHP Billiton as: 1998-2005 Vice President - Technology, Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Community with the Stainless Steel Materials Group 1986-1995 Group Consulting Metallurgist 1982-1986 CERO MATOSO (BILLITON) Colombia - responsible for training and technology transfer to Colombian staff and overseeing operations with over 2000 employees Prior to BHP Billiton Stephen was: Smelter Superintendent at RUSTENBURG PLATINUM MINES, South Africa (1977-1982) Process Engineer at DAVY INTERNATIONAL, UK (1975-1977) His experience and expertise of the mining and extractive industries is extensive and far reaching with a thorough background and broad knowledge of providing consultation and guidance to governments on research, extraction, processing and management of minerals sands, gold, copper, nickel and zinc. Operational and corporate level responsibility has most recently included managing and controlling financial budgets and co-ordinating the activities of a team of 38 consulting staff located in 8 offices around the world.
